Periodontal Disease

Periodontal disease is an often a painless disease until it reaches advanced stages, and can affect your cardiovascular system, as well as your entire body.  Fortunately, you can ask yourself a few simple questions that Dr. Cohrs and his team can use to help decide if you might have a problem, even in the beginning stages.

  •  Do your gums bleed when you brush, floss or eat?
  •  Do you have persistent bad breath?
  •  Does your bite feel different?
  •  Do your gums feel tender or look swollen?
  •  Do your gums or teeth hurt?

When bleeding occurs with your gums, it is usually caused by a bacterial infection.  This is the first sign of gum disease, and we know from research that gum disease can be linked to other diseases of the body.  Heart Disease, Diabetes, Respiratory Disease, and complications of artificial joints and pregnancy are all connected to your oral health.
